Christmas is a time of praise like no other season. It is a time when we celebrate Advent, the coming of God’s Son into the world! The Gospel of Luke records the words of Mary, the soon to be Mother of Jesus, God’s only Son. Upon learning that among all the virgins in Israel, God has chosen her to be the Mother of His Son, she spontaneously begins this praise: “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed. For He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name. And His mercy is on those who fear Him from generation to generation. He has shown strength with His arm; He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He has put down the mighty from their thrones, and exalted the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich He has sent away empty. He has helped His servant Israel, in remembrance of His mercy, as He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his seed forever.” And Mary remained with her about three months, and returned to her house (Luke 1:46-55).
Mary’s hymn of praise resonates in all our hearts as we behold the greatness of our God and the wonder of our Lord Jesus Christ! When we grasp the magnitude of what God has done for us through Jesus Christ, our souls also magnify the Lord and our spirit rejoices in God our Savior. Christ Jesus came into the world to save us and He has done so eternally! Therefore, I ask each of you to spend this entire season rejoicing in the Lord for all He has done! Think only on His goodness and the rest we will understand when we see Him face to face! God is good!
Merry Christmas!
