THE BENEFIT OF A CHILDLIKE ATTITUDE

Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 18:3).

One day the disciples asked Jesus the question, “who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” (Matthew 18:1). They were obviously anticipating an earthly kingdom and wondering what great positions they would have in it. In response Jesus took a little child, who had no rights according to the Law, and stood him in their midst and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 18:3). Jesus used a little child to show them what His Kingdom is truly like; it is the antithesis of earthly kingdoms. On earth, greatness is determined by perishable things like money, where one lives, who serves, who is being served, and titles and positions in our communities and nations, but greatness in Christ Jesus’ Kingdom is not based on worldly things, and to enter it, one must repent and become innocent like a child! Childlike humility is the deportment of every citizen blessed to attain it.

As we live our lives on earth, we must never forget that we are pilgrims on a journey to live forever with God! He is not only Creator but our Father who has promised that if we overcome this world (by His Spirit), He will give us a permanent home with Himself in a place called heaven where the atmosphere is filled with His love, kindness, mercy, character, nature, and so much more that time would fail us were we to enumerate every blessing that we will enjoy for all eternity! We must not comport ourselves as do those who do not want His rule in their lives and have no knowledge of this promise. Our Lord Jesus has told us that “what is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God” (Luke 16:15b). Therefore, do not fear becoming like a child, for in this, your Heavenly Father is well pleased! You will soon hear these words, “Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world” (Matthew 25:24).

Heaven awaits you!
