Since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear (Hebrews 12:28).
It is a “given” that God is going to shake everything in creation, that is, the things that are made, but our kingdom is an unshakable one that finds its genesis in Christ Jesus. Ours is a spiritual kingdom that is not of this world.
The apostle Paul encourages us in his letter to Timothy saying, “But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!” (2 Timothy 3:1-5). Although perilous, harsh, and difficult times will come as we approach the very last day, we are instructed not to participate in the ungodliness of our times. In these scriptures, Paul describes what makes the end times so perilous. They are such because of an overflow of wickedness and pervasive narcissistic behavior! People will be lovers of themselves and of money. They will be proud, arrogant, and abusive. They will be disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, and heartless. They will be unforgiving (unappeasable), slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, and reckless. They will be swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power (2 Timothy 3:1-5 ESV). What Paul says will be is now our present reality! Therefore, the Holy Spirit’s admonition to us is, “Avoid such People!” He warns us to avoid such people because we interact with them every day! Therefore, He is saying to us, “have no fellowship with them!” We are in the world, but are not of the world! In my zeal for the Lord, I have decided not to have fellowship with the world in any form. If we participate in what is being shaken, we too will be shaken. Therefore, “since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear” (Hebrews 12:28).
