THE QUIETNESS OF GOD: BUILT TO LAST

And the temple, when it was being built, was built with stone finished at the quarry, so that no hammer or chisel or any iron tool was heard in the temple while it was being built (1Kings 6:7).

The Lord Jesus, in contradistinction to the Pharisees’ model which was to reject Him, the Chief Cornerstone and use for doctrine the commandments of men to build without God given material, says, “you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it (Matthew 16:18).” Jesus Christ builds His own house, His temple, and confirms by His own words that it is a resilient and an eternal structure! What He builds lasts! His building outlasts every trial and temptation. Though the rains come, the winds and waves beat vehemently upon it, it survives because Jesus builds us, His temple, solely upon Himself, the Rock.

Scripture says, “For Jesus has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses- as much more glory as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself. (For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.) Now Moses was faithful in all God’s house as a servant […] but Christ is faithful over God’s house as a Son. And we are his house, if indeed we hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope” (Hebrews 3:3-6). Jesus, the quiet builder, chisels His own confidence and resilience in each stone, so that every stone He chooses and hews, remains. He is the wise master builder!

In explaining God’s mode of construction, Paul says, “having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit” (Ephesians 2:20-22). Jesus builds us through the foundational teachings of the apostles and prophets! Jesus quietly continues His building process in us daily without the notice of the world.
