I don’t know when you last read John chapter 6, but I would encourage you to read it again because there is an awesome picture of the Gospel in it. Let me tell you what I see whenever I take a look at John chapter 6. In the beginning of the chapter, you have Jesus and the disciples going up on a mountain. They sit down. And it says that this multitude that was following from a distance is coming toward Christ. And at that point, Jesus looks at Phillip, and He says, “Where are we to buy food for all these people?” Phillip and Christ go back and forth for a little while, and then Andrew presents to Jesus five loaves and two fish. From there, Jesus says, “Make the people sit down.” The people sit down in the grass, and then Jesus as we know from the gospel of Mark takes the loaves and the fish, He blesses them, and breaks them, and distributes them to the disciples, and then from the disciples it goes out to the multitudes. That is an amazing picture of the Gospel right there! The loaves and the fish were blessed, broken, and distributed to the multitudes. And we know from later on in John chapter 6 that Jesus Christ is the True Bread from Heaven. He is the Bread of Life. And God took Him, blessed Him, broke Him on the Cross. And then from there, whenever Jesus rose again, and ascended later on and sat down at the right hand of God, His Spirit was poured out to the multitudes. He, Christ, was distributed to the multitudes. For all those who would believe in Him, who would sit down in the grass at His command. Now, the next day after all of this takes place, the multitude asks Jesus, “What do we do to work the works of God?” Jesus replies back, “This is the work of God, that you would believe in Him whom God sent.” Now, there may be, there may be a slight hint of correction in His statement back to the multitude. He may be saying, “This isn’t about what you can do… This isn’t about what you can do for God. This is about what He’s doing, this is the work of God. You believe in Him whom He sent.” So, I would implore everybody listening that you would sit down in the grass, and just receive what it is that the Lord’s trying to show you. Whether it be this year, this month, this week, or if it’s in regards to salvation. Just receive, and rest, and receive some more.
