I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me. But that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father gave Me commandment, so I do (John 14:30-31).
“I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me. But that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father gave Me commandment, so I do” (John 14:30-31). The outworking of our love for God and the Lord Jesus is our unwavering obedience.
Jesus loved His Father and obeyed Him to the end, even dying the most humiliating death of the Cross. Therefore, He say to us, “if you love Me, keep My commandments” (as He kept the Father’s), and “if anyone loves Me, he will keep My word” (John 14:15,23). This love is not within the capacity of the unsaved, but of the saved, “for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God” (1 John 4:7). When we love in this manner, the world recognizes a capacity and ability in us that is not theirs! Jesus says, that the world may know that I love the Father, ‘‘as the Father gave me commandment, so I do” (John 14:31).
In those last days of Jesus’ earthly life, satan marshaled his forces against the Lord with great ferocity, but because he had no claim on Him, he could not take His Life. Therefore, Jesus says, “No one takes it from Me [His life], but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father” (John 10:18). “For I have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak. And I know that His command is everlasting life. Therefore, whatever I speak, just as the Father has told Me, so I speak” (John 12:49–50). The world will never know the love of God unless we heed the Father’s commands as did Jesus. Let these words of His ring in your heart also, “that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father gave Me commandment, so I do” John 14:31).
