I will lift up my eyes to the hills – from whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord (Psalm 121:1-2a).
In times of trouble or uncertainty, what does a person really need? Does one need more money, the Calvary to swoop down and rescue us, or for God to simply extend His hand to us? I believe the latter. Whatever one’s situation or circumstances are, he needs Jesus Christ! As someone rightly said, “every time we cry out to God, a nail-pierced hand reaches out to us.” I might add, every time we pray, “come quickly Lord,” nail-pierced feet come to us!
Regardless of negatives we are experiencing, God has provided but One answer and One solution: His Son! The Son is our help, period! The Psalmist says of God, “You have been my help; do not leave me nor forsake me, O God of my salvation” (Psalm 27:9). The Lord has been your help and will continue to be. You can hope in Him! The Psalmist again cries out, “I will lift up my eyes to the hills – from whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord” (Psalm 121:1-2a).
The writer of Hebrews continues this refrain saying, “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16). The writer does not give a prerequisite concerning perfect behavior, but he instructs us to come boldly to our Father’s throne! Sin can certainly wound our conscience, nevertheless, where sin runs deep, the grace of God runs deeper still! The epistle to the Hebrews instructs us further into the provision of God, saying, “He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him [Christ], since He always lives to make intercession for them” (Hebrew 7:25).
If everything in your life is great today, it is by grace that you stand; it is never of yourself that you stand but through the goodness of God! However, if you are having “life challenges” today, remember it is by His grace that you stand! As the apostle says, “therefore, having obtained help from God, to this day I stand” (Acts 26:22). I urge all of us to realize that we stand in God’s amazing grace because we have received help from God through JESUS CHRIST!
