The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer (2 Samuel 22:2).
King David is one of the most misunderstood and often maligned persons in the Bible. I believe that we can learn from his life. David had far more successes than failures. Actually his life was phenomenal. Let us explore why.
David had a heart toward God like few men have ever had. God, Himself, said, “I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will, ‘From this man’s seed, according to the promise, God raised up for Israel a Savior-Jesus,’” and He was raised for you also (Acts 13:22-23).
The heart of Jesus is expressed through David in such passages as these: “the Lord is my Rock [solid foundation] and my Fortress [place of safety] and my Deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust. My shield and the horn of my salvation” (Psalm 18:2). When God gives you salvation (deliverance), He must give you Himself. David goes on to say, “my stronghold and my Refuge; my Savior, you [Lord] save me from violence” (2 Samuel 22:3).
Therefore, he said of God, “I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; so shall I be saved from my enemies” (Psalm 18:3).
You must also recognize that what God was to David, He also is that same thing to you. You now should reach the same conclusion that David reached, that is: I will call, God will answer, and I will be saved. Confess these results over yourself and your family because God will answer you when you are distressed. His Name will always protect you, and His support for you will always be given. Access Him by means of the faith He has freely given you.
David testified that He was surrounded by ways of death, by hell itself, confronted by snares of death and distress. He did not give up nor did He give in but gave out a cry unto the Lord, and He has heard! The Lord will always hear you in the day of trouble. The following are but a few examples of what happened for David, and you may be assured that they will happen for you also. “He sent from above, He took me [out of my problems], He drew me out of many waters [things that overwhelm], He delivered me from my strong enemy, from those who hated me, for they were too strong for me […] the Lord was my support […] He delivered me because He delighted in me” (Psalm 18:16-19).
Be strong in the Lord for He shall sustain you. Trust in Him, and He will bring good things to pass on your behalf.
