FULLNESS—THE FATHER’S PLAN

That you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height—to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God (Ephesians 3:17-19).

If we were to comprehend the Father’s plan for us in Christ, we would, in this time, experience both depth and height in God such as has never been known in its totality to the Body of Christ, for we now have the benefit of the progressive knowledge of all who have preceded us! The Father‘s plan for us is not merely a generous one; it is beyond anything we have ever dreamed, far beyond the greatest magnanimity of any man! This plan has no equivalent in its liberality in forgiving insult, injury, and in freeing us from petty resentfulness and vindictiveness. The Apostle Paul says, “I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height—to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:14-19).

Paul compares the Father’s plan of strengthening and empowering His saints in the inner man to the riches of God’s inexpressible glory. His intent is that now His manifold wisdom might be made known by the Church to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places, according to the eternal purpose which He accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord. This wealth of His personal glory is Christ! And His desire is that Christ may dwell, take up residence, live permanently in our hearts through faith! Being securely and  firmly rooted and grounded in the love of God, we may now, by His incomparable generosity, have the ability to comprehend, (take eagerly, seize, grasp, obtain, attain, possess), with all the saints, what is the width and length and depth and height – to know the love of Christ which transcends knowledge – that you and I may be filled with all the fullness of God!
